Pop culture, with its negative images, violent videogames, and offensive music, tends to derail your efforts and hard work. How can busy moms and dads protect their children from today's toxic culture? One step at a time. Author Rebecca Hagelin, in her book, 30 Ways in 30 Days to Save Your Family, lays out 30 simple and concrete actions that you can implement, one day at a time, to reconnect with your children and to maintain peace in your home. We will walk through these ways in three sessions and together discuss common sense advice to tackle everyday dilemmas, including: 1) How to fight back against manipulative marketing campaigns that target your child, including what to say to your teen when you pass such places as Victoria's Secret in the mall. 2) The three most important (and easy) things you can do to keep your child safe on online social networks. 3) How (and why) to write a love letter to your child as this may be the key to starting true communication. 4) How to fight the culture and not fight your child. By Fr. Mitch Pacwa S.J. 2010 Lenten Study In Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, he tells us, "The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God" (1:18). Join a small group and explore the meaning of the cross, the power of God, and how to live united to Christ's sacrifice and victory. Small faith-sharing groups will be formed to participate in this six-week study during the Lenten season. Sign-ups will be held during the last weekend in January and the first weekend in February and group assignments and participant booklets will be passed out on the weekend of February 13-14, 2010. Marriage Convalidation Inquiry Presented by Deacon Dennis Hayes Tuesday, February 2nd, at 7:30 p.m. in room 215 Couples who were married outside the Catholic Church and wish to have their marriage recognized as a valid sacramental union within the Catholic Church must have the marriage “convalidated”. This meeting will discuss what is a convalidation and how do we prepare for it? We will also try to answer any other questions that you might have regarding marriage.
